Sandisk just announced the world's first 64GB
microSDXC card, which is designed for use in
    smartphones. The manufacturer doubled the
maximum extra storage that you can add to your
smartphone or tablet. If you were getting worryingly close to the
storage limit of your smartphone or tablet, you
may breathe a sigh of relief now. The newly
announced card is the flagship of the new Mobile
Ultra series in the Sandisk portfolio. According to the manufacturer it should provide
class 6 performance, which means a minimum
write speed of 6MB/s in fragmented state. In best
case scenarios, the card should be able to achieve
the impressive 30MB/s (200x) transfers. Not that
the current gen smart mobile devices can go that high, but seeing the development rate you might
need such speeds soon enough. Unfortunately, there's no saying if any of the
    currently available smartphones are compatible
with these microSDXC cards. Sandisk didn't
provide a list of compatible devices and none of
    the smartphone manufacturers say anything
about it, so it might turn out that these cards won't be of much use until a new batch of
smartphones and tablets hits the market. Nevertheless, the card is already available at
SanDisk's own online store for $219. Ouch!
