ABUJA— SPEAKER of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, yesterday, pleaded with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to allow him report for interrogation at a new date to be fixed by the anti_corruption agency. Bankole, who made the plea in a letter addressed to the EFCC Chairman, Mrs. Farida Waziri, by the Clerk of the House, said the request for the new date was due to the speaker’s involvement in some handover ceremonies. A battery of anxious journalists and cameramen waited for hours at the headquarters of the anti_ corruption agency, after getting confirmation that the embattled speaker would be making an appearance to answer questions regarding his role in the spending of billions allocated to the law making body. Hon. Dimeji Bankole and EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri A telephone call to the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi, had confirmed that Bankole would arrive at the EFCC headquarters in Wuse 2 area, Abuja, by 11.00 am. Babafemi told Vanguard: “We are expecting him today by 11.00 o’clock to come in and answer some questions regarding his role as leader of the out_going House, especially with regards to the conduct of their financial dealings over the past few years.â€

EFCC will always want their victims to be humiliated and psycologically tortured, I guess that is what judgment is to them. Why did they have to go and harrass his wife and chidren, are they also looters? Cant they focus on their business of recovering loots? To many Nigerians, harrassing innocent people is ideal, we see our police do it all they and no one cares to check them.

Please note: the accused is still presumed innocent until proved guilty.

How come the house so much trust him and allowed him to complete his term, if they knew he was stealing so much, or you think you can stealthily steal billions...? this is a house speaker and not bank MD.

I still see him as a good candidate for leadership at a upper level, forget all this talks about corruption... it is all happening because some people have seen his potentials. The only reason he lost re-election is because the south west is against PDP. Judging by his performance as speaker he has been the best we had.

This looks like tribalism in the most extreme case...he has done nothing wrong. The accused is still presumed innocent untill proven guilty.
