ok let's go there guys. Kets start with steps involved in building your first indigeous web site. (your own website). Let go there. The stesp in building a web site are:
    Domain name/ Hosting
    Design/development.
    Uploading.
We are going to start with the design/development. Skill  required: intermedate. Software required are Macromedia fireworks, Macromedia Dreamweaver Mx/ microsoftfrontpage. We can start with this two, we will extend with time. You can download the trial versions of this software or download and crack it or buy a macromedia mx software. It is just 150 or thereabout. System requirment windows  xp - vista. 40gb harddisk, 256 ram. When all this are done. Then we will begin with the first lesson. For more pm me.

4 beginners, note dat u dnt begin building a website by opening dreamweaver and laying out pages right away. The 1st steps 2 creatin a website design begins on a piece of paper, or in a graphics-editin apps like Macromedia Fireworks, I wil assume u hv already sketched out a piece of comprehensive artwork of wat u want a site 2 look like...

thnx joe, every good website has a foundation, just like every perfect house has one a sketch, first thing first, get a piece of paper, draw a site. Every website consisit of Banner/header, side/top buttons, body and footer. U can begin by adopting any webdesign u navigate. Applications like firworks, swishmax and macromedia flash allows u to design/use a customized banner or button. Note a good website should consist of a maximum of 4 colors and a mimimun of one. Make sure the colors are arranged proper in order to achieve a perfect and wellbuilt site.
I am come don't move nich. Grab urself a cup of coffe so that we can flow together.

knowing ur design layout is crucial in gud designing, 4 instance am designing 4 a client who will want 2 hav a logo @ the top of d page, a navigation d links to these other pages, a section for an online store, and a place where I can insert video clips." Based on that discussion, I plan 4 d layout of the site, and make sketches of sample pages that fulfill the client’s requirements.

Since we r using Dreamweaver 8, we start by clicking on file den select New or use shortcut key Ctrl + N, a new Document selection type pop up, Click on "Basic page" and select "HTML" and click create or you can double-click on HTML. At d document panel, Change the "Title" name 2 wat u will like a web browser 2 call the page (Note: Always give a title dat relates 2 wat d page is all about) For Instance I can name dis page as "Website Designing Tutorial".....

Save ur file as index.html (Reason, wen using a webserver or when you upload ur site, the server will always search 4 index file when 1 tries 2 viw ur website, so its the homepage is is name index in may atimes.... Need 2 know weda u guys r following.....
If more request don come I will save my time 4 some other things

One question man. Just to let others know ok?
If u store ur html doc as "index.html" note dat all ur images, script and banners would go in another folder. "index_files" am i right?
Then hw wuld u upload these files to a cpanel naw? I dont mean the index.html, bt the files in index_files.

thanks cloejoe, but lets answer icemug so that he will know that we are good at dis, u dig? Ok icemug, it all depends on the web editor u re using, frontpage create a default folder index-files, with content images, script activex etc for the index.html file and other html file, u must upload the folder in the www root of the site for ur html files to work effectively. for dreamweaver u hv to create a folder for such files (script, images, banner, buttons etc.) in ur web editor, after dat u upload the index.html file as well as the folder so that the images, banner, buttons, script  will still be active on the index.html file and other html files create using all those, if u have any question u can still ask u dig? We are ready. We no bi childs u grab.

ok icemug, lets take it softly, read carefully. I use macromedia Dreamweaver, cos it is flexible and works with other macromedia programs like firework, flash, etc. It is easy to import files from these softwares to dreamweaver cos they are d same product. Over to the subject. I do not use web editors to upload files, i use FTP's to upload files to my www-root. I need to know the web editor u re using so that i can explain everything to u. Dreamweaver allows u to create folders for ur images, scripts etc, that are found on the html documents. When this html files are uploaded without the folder containing the image files, the html file will load without the images and script. Dat while in some sites, when loaded, somes rectanglar boxes are displayed indicating dat the image was not loaded. But from the back end everything works perfectly. U grab, so tell me the web editor ur using so that i can tell u hw to go about dat. Thanks

since Proffi is interested in helping u icemug, I wil give d important tins u need 2 know
    1. The www or public_html folders serve as ur site root (Note dat d root is the directly dat al d files dat ur site works with are stored in)
    2. So u must store all d files dat conect ur site unda the root folder both images and css styles.
    3. The name of folder must be d same tin wit d 1 on ur local computer.

Havin known dese, weda u r uploadin wit ftp or tru control panel, al u need 2 do is enta ur root directory i.e public_html den click on 'new dir' or any terminology dat relates to creatin new folder dat u c dependin on wat u r using. Den make sure dat u make directories 4 al files as in ur local computer. To upload 2 any of d folders, click on anywhere u c a folder wit d name (make sure u click on a folder icon, never click on names like dat of the folder)
Finaly, make sure u upload d files dat relate 2 d site 2 avoid having broken links
