d body's defense or immune cells are normally d white blood cells, especially d specific type of immune cells known as T-helper or CD4 cells.when an individual is infected wit HIV,d virus enters  d body & inhabits d white blood cells where it multiplies primarily. As  d virus grows,it destroys these defence cells & other cells, thus weakening d body's immune system.Once e immune system losses too many CD4 cells,d body's defense  against infections crumbles & d victim becomes vulnerable 2 various disease causing micro-organisms causing various opportunistic infections & other diseases ranging frm pneumonia 2 cancer.
